Travel Info

As the top tourist destination in the USA, Florida is well served with numerous airports and flights from all over the world. Florida’s top international airports are well equipped and offer car rental desks, shuttle buses, banks, and information centers. Most airports are conveniently located throughout the state, off major highways, and near popular destinations. Easy proximity to an airport is a good consideration when deciding where to purchase your Florida home. Smaller, regional executive airports service private aircraft for more landing options.

An alternative to flying in first or business class, many people prefer the convenience and freedom of traveling in a private Jet. Many companies are now offering affordable ways to utilize their service, by offering empty lag one way flights, and shared charters. Jets are available on demand, and you won’t go through all the time consuming boarding procedures that you would on a commercial flight.

The national passenger rail company, Amtrack, serves Florida from both the east and west coasts. The Silver Service from New York, runs down the east coast and ends in Tampa or Miami. The Sunset Limited from Los Angeles ends at Sanford near Orlando and covers 3066 miles. Amtrack also offers Auto Train service that will transport your car, with pickup in Lorton, Virginia, to Sanford Florida, taking 18 hours. Florida also has its own Tri Rail service, that travels from Miami airport to West Palm Beach, stopping in cities in between. Canadians can also travel to Florida via Toronto and Montreal.

Greyhound bus service is the most economical, worry free way to get to Florida. Some services are express with few stops from all states and Canada. All major cities have local bus service. Free Internet service and outlets are now available on some of the newer buses. Pets are not permitted to travel on the bus and there are limited luggage requirements.

Cars are best rented at the airport, in a fly and drive package where you will get a huge discount. You will need a drivers license, passport, and credit card. Longer term rentals for your stay are discounted in price. Drop offs at a different location from pickup will add a premium to the cost. When driving in Florida always have extra change for the toll highways, and make sure to fill up before returning the car. With unlimited mileage offered at some rental companies in the US, some people opt to rent a car to drive from their home state.
